THE CRANKIE BOX
A collaborative story-telling device
This project unfolded as a slow dérive through a coastal settlement undergoing intense ecological and spatial pressure. Walking became both method and medium, allowing participants to register infrastructures, livelihoods, environmental shifts, and everyday negotiations embedded in the landscape. A portable drawing apparatus enabled collective annotation in motion, producing sequential traces rather than static representations. Observations, conversations, gestures, and pauses were layered into a shared graphic record. The outcome was not a map of the neighbourhood but a situated narrative, revealing how movement, drawing, and attention can recalibrate urban perception.
