THE MOBILE ENGAWA

Developed within a Japanese suburban context, this work reinterpreted the domestic threshold as a mobile, shared condition. Drawing from vernacular spatial practices, the installation operated as a lightweight architectural device—part meeting place, part archive, part workshop. Visitors were invited to linger, converse, and contribute clay impressions that recorded gestures, objects, and stories. Over time, these fragments formed a collective material memory of everyday life. Rather than proposing permanence, the project foregrounded adaptability, intimacy, and hospitality as architectural values capable of migrating across sites and communities.
